This is my most recent addition to my portfolio - just finished last December 2009.  It’s a close-up view of a larger painting.  I wanted a lot of detail in this painting so I spent quite some time on the background. I looked at photos of jungle plants, vines, palm trees, to get a feel for jungle flora.  I also threw in a few photos of palms that I shot myself from my own neighborhood in LA.  When I started work on the girl I had some trouble with the clothing at first - her garments looked too much like a store-bought bikini, until I asked my wife “what would a swamp girl be wearing?”  and she said “snake skin”.  It was a great idea and I went with it.  The overall effect came out quite nice.
